Special Olympics Massachusetts
It’s been a vision of Special Olympics Massachusetts for many years, and now, it’s become a reality: the new Yawkey Sports Training Center. While the Marlborough Center replaces an outdated and overcrowded state headquarters on the North Shore, it will also serve much more than that in the years to come. The organization is proud to finally call the new Yawkey Sports Training Center home. After close to a year of construction and five years in the planning, Special Olympics athletes, volunteers and central office staff will now call this new facility their home.
The 25,000 S/F Yawkey Sports Training Center has a full-size gym, a 40 X 30 yard soccer field, computer training facilities, video conferencing capabilities and five multipurpose conference rooms. The Center is located at 512 Forest Street in Marlborough, MA.
Special Olympics Massachusetts is a leader in providing healthy lifestyles and healthcare-related programs through sports for individuals with intellectual disabilities. The new headquarters houses the staff of Special Olympics Massachusetts and provides much needed space for the training of coaches and other volunteers. Also, through a unique partnership with UMass Medical School of Worcester the organization will work closely with the school to develop curriculum meant to address the behavioral aspects of treating individuals with intellectual disabilities; all taking place at the new Yawkey Sports Training Center.
Special Olympics Massachusetts has been first in many worldwideSpecial Olympics initiatives including their Healthy Athletes program. Once again, the Massachusetts program will take the lead and help individuals with intellecual disabilities live healthier, vibrant and more fulfilling lives through sports and the increased access to quality healthcare and health-related programming. They’ll do it in Marlborough.
